“Best Applied Automation” from Rexroth and SICK – based on open standards
Lohr-am-Main / Waldkirch – Bosch Rexroth AG and SICK AG have agreed on a technical collaboration in the area of factory automation. The joint solutions focus on the simplified integration of SICK sensors in Rexroth control systems. Users benefit from more rapid system integration and commissioning – thanks to interfaces that are co-ordinated with one another and the use of open standards.

The aim of the technical collaboration between the two companies is to create system solutions that offer perfect and flexible integration. The control systems from the automation company Rexroth, combined with the wide-ranging portfolio of sensors from SICK, offer users time-savings and simplification through open standards and interfaces that are co-ordinated with one another.

Rexroth’s IndraWorks is a software framework that ensures the consistent and rapid engineering of all system components from the HMI (Human-Machine Interface) to the sensor, via FDT (Field Device Tool) / DTM (Device Type Manager) technology. DTMs from a device library are integrated in the IndraWorks Project Manager by drag-and-drop, and provide access to the sensor’s parameter, configuration and diagnostic data without the need for any supplementary tools. Current measurement values and device states are advantageously visualised with the embedded dialogues of the DTMs, the device data is stored in the user project and, if necessary, archived.

SICK’s latest generation of sensors supports the trailblazing IO Link interface standard. Photoelectric proximity switches and reflex switches are already available with IO Link, which bridges the “last metre” to the sensor and provides cost-effective communication. A library with ready-to-use function blocks permits the transparent integration of the sensor data in the PLC program of Rexroth’s IndraControl L-controllers.

Thus Rexroth and SICK enable simple and rapid integration in differing control topologies while offering a considerable reduction in costs throughout the entire engineering workflow.

Rexroth and SICK are showing examples of their collaboration at their stands at the Hanover Trade Fair 2007 from 16 - 20 April.
