SICK boosts its business field of Motorfeedback Systems - The sensor manufacturer expands its technology basis by acquiring Israeli company
Waldkirch / Misgav, 17 January, 2006. SICK AG has concluded an asset deal which will see it acquire a large share of the assets of Netzer Precision Motion Sensors Ltd. Founded in 1998, this manufacturer of Rotary and Linear Encoders is based in Misgav, Israel and has an interesting portfolio of technologies and developments, fully in tune with market requirements.

With effect from 16 January, 2006, SICK acquired the technologies, development and production capacities and the worldwide rights to the existing Netzer products, with the exception of the vehicle, avionics and military application sectors. The Netzer technology will strengthen the position of SICK STEGMANN GmbH in the motorfeedback system sector in the future. SICK-STEGMANN is the brand for encoders and motorfeedback systems in the SICK Group and is managed from the Donaueschingen site in Germany. Motorfeedback systems are used to control servo motors accurately in tool machines or robot systems, for example.

The assets that have been acquired will form part of the recently-created SICK Sensor Ltd. in Misgav near Haifa. SICK Sensor Ltd. will retain 15 employees from the Misgav site and the managers of Netzer Precision Motion Sensors Ltd. will act as managers of the new company. The former CEO of Netzer, Beto Catz, will now be CEO of SICK Sensor Ltd.

Dr. Robert Bauer, member of the Executive Board of SICK AG and responsible for the Factory Automation segment, adds: "The acquisition of this technology-oriented company will allow SICK to strengthen its market position in the motorfeedback sector especially for direct drives. In this way, the Netzer know-how will form an ideal counterpart to the SICK-STEGMANN expertise”.
